Draw a grid, in dashed pale-pencil line, to enable you to place your motifs accurately. This grid should be relevant to the scale of your motif, so, for instance, if you drew your grid at 8cm (3in) intervals in both directions and your motif was 4cm (1½in) then each motif would have a 4cm (1½in) space between them. STEP 4 STEP 5 Using your tracing or photocopy, arrange your motif within this block nine times, at the intersection of each dashed line, so that the organization of the motif will create a grid-like pattern.
