Were critics to adopt such definitions, they might well find themselves forwarding a kind of Leavisite view that the critic's job is to define the responses which a 'perceptive' audience ought to have.
Hence, the subjective (and therefore, the erotic) are one with the productive forces of the subjective: namely, the industrial. Consideration of human worth in these terms becomes meaningless, as Gilles Deleuze and Felix Guattari pointed out in 1972 in Anti-Oedipus.
