This individual is often called the primary attachment figure. Bowlby introduced the concept of monotropy to capture the idea that there may be a privileged place in a child’s attachment hierarchy for a specific caregiver and that, in fact, evolution may have crafted the attachment system to lock-in on a specific figure to help organize and focus behavior during emergencies (Bowlby, 1969/1982).
