I could be popular. I could have boyfriends. I could be happy. I began to invent people and tell my friends about themfrom fifth to eighth grade this was what I did. My fear and insecurity were covered up by lying. All I wanted was acceptance and love. Because I was incapable of giving it to myself, I sought it from others. k. Then and only then. This meant I had to do what they did, such as smoking cigarettes and stealing and drinking. I also had a feeling that my friends got high. Since I wanted what they had, I felt I had to follow.

If you live through those years. Many of our peers died in that car wreck that we survived just by luck. They died from an accidental overdose, some do have a brain like a vegetable from the once-too-often, or suffocated from their last glue trip. Yes, it really does happen, and yes, it can happen to you. We might remind you that no one goes to jail, drops out of school, or gets pregnant from eating peanut butter. If mind-affecting chemicals create problems in your life and you keep using them for whatever reasons, then you have a problem with mind-affecting chemicals.

I couldn't sleep without help, and help came in taking pills in outrageous amounts to put me on my way. One day, just to get through the school day, I accidentally took an overdose of pills. I never knew what those pills were, but I took too many. Along came strange visions, and in panic, I began pulling out my hair. By the end of the day I had bald spots on my head and I was so weak that I had to be carried home. By this time I had had quite a few experiences with blackouts. People were always telling me what a good time I had at a party that I didn't even know I had been at.
