He interviewed a pilot, Kenneth Arnold, who had been searching for the wreckage of a military plane 28 in the Cascade Mountains in Washington State. Nine bright objects had suddenly zoomed past Kenneth at incredible speed. He said the strange craft had boomerang-shaped wings and no tail. Kenneth also told the reporter they had whizzed across the sky like a hand-thrown saucer skipping across water. So the reporter used the term ‘flying saucers’ when he wrote the story. The name stuck, even though the objects Kenneth had described were shaped more like crescents than saucers.

A few days later, Mac drove into town for a drink at his local pub. Everyone was talking about the strange UFO they’d seen whizzing across the night sky. 33 That got Mac thinking. Maybe the shiny thing in his paddock was a UFO too! He rang the sheriff to tell him his theory. WEIRD WRECKAGE The sheriff got in touch with the local airbase at Roswell. The Air Force sent an intelligence officer, Major Jesse Marcel, to Mac’s farm to check out the wreckage. Major Marcel thought the stuff on the ground was so weird he took some of it home to show his wife and kids.

After a while something tapped him on the shoulder. A humanoid led him out of the UFO 45 and into a huge building. More disc-shaped craft were parked in the corner. A mask was placed over his face, and he was told to lie down. The next thing he knew, he was back on the highway outside his home town. He’d ‘lost’ five days of his life. Sound too far-fetched to believe? Maybe it is. Sceptical investigators discovered some interesting facts about the case. Travis had recently seen a TV show about another American couple who claimed they’d been abducted.
