Many of the foundational arguments and observations are expanded upon and reiterated in more nuanced forms throughout the substantial body of scholarship devoted to the Western. This is especially important with regard to history, race, gender and the representation of the West in a diverse array of cultural contexts and mediated forms.
Ever so sporadically Westerns appear on our cinema screens accompanied by the same claims that on the one hand, the Western is a long dead Hollywood relic and on the other, the Western is coming back in fashion.
