The results would not be known for one year. After getting their parents’ approval, thousands of second graders lined up for vaccinations. Second-grade children were the most at risk for the disease.
But instead, he began working on a new threat—AIDS, or acquired immune deficiency syndrome. AIDS is a deadly disease that attacks and destroys the human immune system.
